ADMISSION INTO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES FOR 2012/2013
ACADEMIC YEAR
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into fulltime,
part-time and sandwich postgraduate programmes in various faculties for the
2012/2013 academic year. Candidates on full-time employment are not eligible to apply
for full-time studies. The available higher degree and postgraduate diploma programmes
are indicated below.
1. FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE
M.Sc. and Ph.D are offered by the Departments of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural
Extension, Animal Science, Crop Science, Food Science and Technology, Soil Science,
and Home Science, Nutrition & Dietetics. The Department of Animal Science offers
M.Sc. and Ph.D in Animal Nutrition and Biochemistry, Animal Production, and
Physiology of Reproduction, and Growth and Lactation. The Department of Food
Science and Technology offers the following areas of specialization: Food Chemistry and
Analysis, Animal Products Technology, Fruits and Vegetable Processing technology,
Cereals, Pulses, Legumes and Tuber Processing Technology, Quality Control and
Assurance, Food Biotechnology, and Food Engineering and Processing. The following
areas of specialization are offered in the Department of Soil Science: Soil Genesis,
Survey and Classification, Soil Chemistry and Mineralogy, Soil Biology and
Biochemistry, Soil Fertility Management, Soil Physics and Conservation, and
Environmental Impact Assessment and Land Evaluation. Department of Agricultural
Economics offers M.Sc and Ph.D with the following options: Farm Management &
Production Economics, Agricultural Marketing and Agribusiness, Agric. Finance and
Project Analysis, Agricultural Cooperatives, and Resources and Environmental
Economics. PGD is offered by the Departments of Agricultural Economics, Food Science
and Technology, Crop Science, Animal Science, Agricultural Extension, and Soil
Science.
2. FACULTY OF ARTS
M.A., and Ph.D are offered by the Departments of Foreign Languages & Literature, Mass
Communication, and Theatre & Film Studies. Department of Archeology and Tourism
offers M.A. and Ph.D in Polaeolithic Studies, Iron Age Archaeology, Origins of Food
Production and Urbanization, Cultural Resource Management (Museum or Tourism
Option), and Theatre & Film Studies while M.A. and M.F.A. are offered in the
Department of Fine and Applied Arts. Department of English offers PGD, M.A. and
Ph.D in ESL, English Language, Literature, Comparative Studies and Literature.
Department of Linguistics, Igbo and other Nigerian Languages offers the following areas
of specialization: M.A. in Linguistics, African Languages, Literature in African
Languages, Translation and Interpreting and Ph.D in Linguistics, African Languages and
Literature. Department of History and International Studies offers the following areas:
Political History, Economics & Social History and Religious History. Department of
Theatre and Film studies offers History of Drama & Theatre, Dramatic theory &
Criticism, African Drama & Theatre, Acting and Directing and Playwriting. PGD is also
offered by the Departments of Foreign Language & Literature, Mass Communication and
Archiology & Tourism. Department of Music offers M.Mus., M.A. & Ph.D in African
Music Industry Ensemble/ Theatre Directing & Management, Music Education &
Research, Composition & Musical instruments Technology. UNN Aba Compus also
offers PGD programme in Nigerian Languages Education (Conversion programme).
